Dungarvan

The name Dungarvan comes from the foundation of a monastery by St. Garvan in the 7th Century. The Norman Prince John, who established himself in Dungarvan in 1185 constructed a castle, the remains of which can still be seen today.

Situated about 30 miles to the West of Waterford City, Dungarvan has a population of about 7,000 and is a thriving market town. It is also the main administrative centre for Co. Waterford.

The Locality

Local industries include fishing, tourism & crystal. There is also a vineyard situated in nearby Cappoquinn. This is a family run vineyard open daily where visitors can sample the local grape.

Situated beneath the beautiful Waterford mountains Dungarvan has many attractions on offer to visitors including excellent pubs, restaurants, shopping and numerous tours and excursions.
